Landscape and Horticulture Training
Using our garden and community areas, participants learn about plant cultivation, sustainable practices, and sustainable growing. Training can lead to careers in agriculture, horticulture, landscaping, and sustainable farming. Skills related to environmental conservation can open doors to careers in eco-friendly agriculture, land management, and conservation organisations. Training in this academy also includes accredited qualifications and work placements.
A structured six-week programme provides participants with a comprehensive understanding of horticulture, sustainable food growing, and environmental conservation. This will be followed up with 20 weeks (on average) support.
Week 1: Introduction to Horticulture and Plant Cultivation
• Welcome and orientation to the programme.
• Overview of horticulture and its role in sustainable food growing using permaculture principles.
• Introduction to accredited elements including CSCS, H&S training , Manual Handling, First aid at work, and access to Instinct training
• Introduction to plant cultivation techniques in line with permaculture ethics.
• Hands-on experience in the garden, planting and tending to crops with permaculture practices.
• Soil analysis with a focus on permaculture principles and preparing for sustainable practices.
Week 2: Sustainable Food Growing and Landscaping
• Understanding sustainable food growing practices through permaculture.
• Sustainable land use.
• Sustainable food growing techniques and their positive impact on the environment.
• Hands-on experience in maintaining the community garden.
• Sustainable project planning guided by permaculture design.
Week 3: Environmental Conservation and Land Management
• Introduction to environmental conservation.
• Exploring land management practices.
• Hands-on activities in the community garden
• Field trip to a local conservation site, showcasing permaculture in action.
Week 4: Eco-Friendly Agriculture and Sustainable Farming
• Understanding eco-friendly agricultural practices.
• Hands-on experience in implementing sustainable food growing techniques
• Learning about organic farming and its benefits.
• Group project on eco-friendly agriculture.
• Preparing for work placements.
Week 5: Work Placements and Practical Experience
• Preparation for work placements.
• Participants begin their work placements in local farms, horticultural businesses, landscaping or conservation organisations.
• Debriefing and sharing experiences from work placements.
Week 6: Certification and Graduation
• Awarding of accredited qualifications and certificates.
• Graduation ceremony and celebration of accomplishments.
• Reflection and setting personal career goals.
• Closing ceremony and future career planning
