Summer Fun Thursdays are for everyone to discover
We are always busy at the Vinery with fun, new activities. This summer we have started Fun Thursdays where anyone can come along and learn more about our surroundings. Our volunteer Nancy shares how the sessions have started and what might be next:
The first of the four Summer Fun Thursdays was amazing: and thank you all who attended!
We started making our own memory book/journal to add to each week. We all shared what we had drawn and there were some amazing, summery pictures.
The first week was spent getting to know each other with icebreaker games and a sensory exploration of the garden. The gardens have a lot to see and do once you get into a space with plants and beasties. The sensory exploration not only included three things you can see, three things you can smell, and three things you can hear. But we also found cool stuff to feel and taste. Someone found a Lambs Ear plant. It is so velvety and smooth to touch. We also found plenty to eat: raspberries, black currants and red currants to add to the healthy snack we'd already devoured.
And then there were all the games, lots of people came out and were free to pick up a spirited game of rounders, play badminton, the lawn quiots, which you might know as horseshoe.
Everyone is welcome on Thursday! You don't have to have a child in tow as we will be finding activities for our own inner child. During a future Thursday session, weather dependent, we will be going to the beach to find bits and pieces for our nature-based crafts. Or we can explore the woodlands and do some nature detective work, explore the trees, and beasties and animal tracks and whatever else we might find.
